Now about this time we had a wonderful idea.  Our friends and family had always come when we asked them for help.  We wondered if they would be willing to pitch in and help us get the cabin walls up.  Now that we were this close, we couldn't help but dream that we could get the cabin ready for deer hunting this year.  If we worked hard enough, and long enough, we might be able to do it.

So, we made up invitations and sent them out to everyone we knew.  Then we put our heads together to come up with food and drink to keep the workers happy.  Here is a copy of the invitation we sent out.
November 4th (1995) was a bright and sunny day.  We had a whole crew here ready and able to work.  The first logs were lifted into place and everything after that went like clockwork.  Everyone had a job, and it all came together nicely.
Once a log was laid down, someone would drill the holes where the long spikes would be driven in.  They were 12" spikes, and took quite a few good hits to get them into the log below.  But they were necessary to keep the walls sturdy.
Then came the insulation.  Long strips were laid on top of each log, then stapled into place.  This was to keep the draft out between the logs.  Everyone took turns with that job because the staple gun got hard on the hands.

Above you can see where the picture window will go.  Though from this view, it looks like a rather small opening.

We didn't take time to go back to the house for lunch, we usually packed it and brought it with, as you can see by the wall to the right.
